Love In Action Through Service to Others

As a member of God’s family, it is not uncommon to find ourselves engaged in various efforts doing simple but kind acts for others even daily.  Asking an elderly neighbor if they need anything from the store is an example of a gesture.  Helping to tidy up a front or back yard for someone who does not have ongoing support is another way to help. Serving helps us grow in our relationship with the Lord and is a pathway to spiritual growth.  Additionally serving alongside other believers fosters accountability and mutual encouragement which also helps in our spiritual development. Volunteering in the church is not merely a task to check off a “to do” list; it’s a divine invitation to love others as God loves us.  Psalm 100:2 says: “Serve the Lord with gladness”.  Serving flows from our hearts and is not an obligation but an opportunity to express our gratitude and joy in the Lord.

Remember, serving allows us to:

  1. Love others directly and assist and support to those in need;
  2. Shift our focus from ourselves and take our eyes off our own circumstances;

Use our God given gifts to honor God and be used for His glory while helping others.  Your sincere smile and    warm handshake could make someone feel better for the day!
